Jason Miskiri

Once celebrated as a CIAA basketball legend, Jason Miskiri’s story is one of perseverance, reinvention, and an unshakable commitment to community. His journey began on the basketball courts of Montgomery Blair High School and George Mason University, where his instinctive leadership and competitive drive carried him to the NBA and beyond. After hanging up his jersey, Jason brought the same discipline, vision, and commitment to teamwork that defined his athletic career into a new arena—entrepreneurship.

Jason’s entry into the hospitality industry quickly became a testament to his ability to blend passion with business acumen. In Laurel, Maryland, he helmed the wildly popular Island Flavors, offering an upscale twist on Caribbean-American fusion cuisine. Building on that success, he returned to his hometown of Silver Spring to launch Society Restaurant & Lounge in 2012—a dining and nightlife destination that became a cornerstone of the downtown area. His knack for creating vibrant, culturally rich experiences soon led to more groundbreaking ventures, including The Angry Jerk, a Caribbean quick-service concept with locations in Silver Spring, Columbia, and Dupont Circle, as well as the highly acclaimed Breakfast Club, which opened its doors in December 2022 to widespread acclaim.

Authenticity has been a defining theme in Jason’s entrepreneurial journey. Despite setbacks, his unwavering impact on the communities he partners with—and his vision and commitment to see them grow—have helped him maintain momentum. He is dedicated not only to building successful businesses but also to ensuring those businesses become true pillars of the community.

Today, his restaurants are not only economic drivers but also safe, welcoming spaces for people from all walks of life. They employ a workforce that is over 70% local residents, representing diverse backgrounds across race, ethnicity, age, gender, and socioeconomic status. Jason is intentional about creating teams that reflect the community’s diversity, using his businesses as platforms for empowerment and opportunity.

Jason’s influence extends far beyond the dining table. As co-founder of Domain Fitness and Performance—Burtonsville, Maryland’s newest state-of-the-art fitness facility—he is redefining what it means to offer fitness, wellness, performance, and community. The gym provides a wide array of equipment for all fitness levels, on-site trainers, group fitness classes, and specialized performance services.

In addition to building successful ventures, Jason has remained steadfast in his role as a philanthropist and community investor across Silver Spring, Montgomery County, and the surrounding region. His philanthropic vision inspired the creation of Opportunities for Dedicated Athletes (ODA), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to helping athletes of all ages take decisive steps toward personal and professional growth.

Beyond job creation and philanthropy, Jason works closely with his network of leaders and partners to launch and support initiatives that provide tangible resources to those in need, ensuring that his success continues to create opportunities and uplift the very community that has supported him.

From basketball dreams to entrepreneurial vision, Jason Miskiri remains a leader who inspires others to dream big, work hard, and give back—proof that with vision and determination, reinvention is not only possible but transformative.
